The International AIDS Trust led the research team for the report on HIV/AIDS as a Security Issue recently released by the International Crisis Group (ICG). Our organizations worked in partnership on the development of the report as well as the Capitol Hill launch, and together we will seek implementation of the recommendations contained in the report. The International AIDS Trust provided policy and communication support and technical assistance to the First Lady of Rwanda in the development and implementation of the African First Ladies Summit on Children and HIV/AIDS which took place in Kigali, Rwanda from May 20-22, 2001. During the Summit, the International AIDS Trust, in conjunction with Rwanda's First Lady Madame Jeannette Kagame, unveiled a model project which was later adopted into the Summit's Declaration. This "family care and support project" will build on the benefits of the mother-to-child transmission intervention, by extending health care and support services to HIV+ parents and their children.
